Although not nearly as strong DDO 1,
the doubling shown on DDO 3 is fairly
significant. Like the 1972 DDO 1 the
1972 DDO 3 is a class I rotated hub
doubling. Doubling can be seen on the
date, LIBERTY, and IN GOD WE
TRUST.
DDO 3 is the most common doubled
die for the date. A collector should
have little trouble finding a mint state
example.
There are over 9different double die
obverses known for this year. If it were
not for the existence of DDO 1, DDO's
2, 3, 7, and 8 would be much more
popular. The each show strong class I
doubling. DDO's 2, 4, 5 and 7 are
rotated counterclockwise, while DDO's
1, 3, 6 and 8 are rotated clockwise.
DDO 9 is class VIII doubling.
